John Slezak (1940-2022) founded the Spires Brass Band in 1993, modeled after traditional British brass bands, following a distinguished career teaching music and directing bands with FCPS Schools, most notably, Frederick High School Cadet band.

For 28 years, John was conductor, musical director, business manager, and friend to all Spires band members and patrons. His legacy lives on in the Spires Brass Band, in the many programs he led, and individual lives he positively impacted over his rich career, and generous, talented life. He'd be equally pleased to know that the band continues to flourish, now under a new, very capable baton.
